LAND OF THE BAYS AND PESNINSULAS
 

Land of bays and peninsulas - beautiful sea views and rocky beaches

 

The four large peninsulas that gave Lahemaa its name together with the ones between them with bays is as if designed to discover the northern coast.

 

Lahemaa National Park is truly rich in forests - it is one of Europe's with the largest forest reserve. In addition, it was sown 10,000 years ago the arrival of glacial ice over the northern coast with boulders - they are easier to find Majakivi (size 3.) and Jaani-Tooma suurkivi (size 20.) on Kasi.

 

However, the various hiking trails of the national park invite you to get out into nature in forests, swamps and along the coastline. The Oandu Aegviidu-Ikla hiking trail also starts from Lahemaa.

VIRU BOG

Viru raba is a small but beautiful bog landscape with many ponds, where with the help of information boards, you can learn about marsh plants, insects and others with small creatures.

 

At the back of the trail is a former peat mining field restoration area with explanatory boards. The length of the trail is 3.5 km from one end of the bog to the other, around the forest road of the bog returning along the trail to the beginning, the length of the circle is 6 km.

 

The track introduces High marsh landscape and vegetation typical of Estonia.

KOLGA MANOR

Here, in the grand Kolga manor, you will experience an atmosphere of mystery and of times past.

In 1230, the estate belonged to the Cistercian Order. In 1581, King John III of Sweden gave Kolga and the land around it to the famous Swedish general Pontus De la Gardie.

Kolga obtained its current appearance in the 1820s when the previous building was completely rebuilt as a stylish Classicist palace. From the end of the 17th century to the summer of 2014, the manor has belonged to the same noble family, the Stenbocks.

Despite the fact that many of its buildings are in ruins, the manor complex still makes a majestic impression.

TSITRE - THE TRAIL OF THE TREES

The 1 km long trail goes around the park of the former Tsitre summer manor, long and a place with a colorful history.

 

The renewed Tsitre trees trail has a lot of interesting things to do. It offers activities both to those interested in history, heritage and culture, the trail is accessible for wheelchairs, for those who just enjoy a walk in the park and on the beach or to eager bird watchers.

 

There are 29 information boards onthe trail where you can familiarize yourself with the Tsitre trees and the stories of old times. The texts are also available in English and Russian.

 

The information boards have pictures and descriptions of more than 30 plants and trees, and you can also find them there old photos, local lore and stories, which bits and pieces happened here in the past bring the find to us.

CAPE PUREKKARI

The northernmost point of the Estonian mainland – the rocky peak of Cape Purekkari with Purekkari with boulder. In the spring, flocks of migratory birds can be seen here resting and feeding and in flight. Also Maa- and Ulglaht Pärispea the east coast has some of the best resting places for migrating waterfowl feeding places in Lahemaa.
